To What End?, 2003
South American Explorer's Club Mural
Located on the clubhouse interior wall in the Mariscal Sucre District in Quito, Ecuador
Created with the concept of ever encroaching civilization in Ecuadorian Amazon's Yasuní National Park, Bejat juxtaposed this with it’s biodiversity. Bejat encouraged world-wide volunteers traveling through Ecuador and local Ecuadorian students to paint with her. She completed the mural within two months. The walls, composed of mud covered with stucco, created a preservation challenge in in this beautiful historic patrimonial home. This mural serves as a subtle reminder in a metropolitan city that nature exists and desperately needs attention. The Amazon is disappearing at an alarming rate due to oil development and civilization as depicted in this mural where the viewer can see the edges of encroachment into the most biodiverse place on Earth, Yasuní National Park.
