Pelican In Bloom, 2001
Dickinson, Texas
Celebrating the Texas Gulf Coast's native flora and it's pollinators, Pelican in Bloom sat roadside on Highway 3 in Seabrook, TX. Bejat specifically selected sunflowers, Mexican hat, brown-eyed Susan, Texas paintbrush, bluebonnets, Indian blanket, and blue-eyed grass for it's color and charismatic qualities. The images are enlarged so that they are visible roadside allowing viewers to see the stages of development for the monarch, zebra and gulf fritillary butterflies.
Many local businesses sold their pelicans to interested parties and Pelican in Bloom now resides on a golf course in Dickinson, TX.
Primed and drawn to the scale of the submitted sketch for the Pelican Path Project.
Bejat paints an initial base coat of color. Here Bejat paints at the annual Wheels and Keels event held at Lakewood Yacht Club in Seabrook, TX to promote Seabrook's Pelican Path Project.
